Thank you for joining us today! You are welcome to post questions here.

26:38
Helen - What are some of the resources the honors college provides you find particularly helpful?

26:44
Jonathan- How has the Honors College been beneficial in the computer science major?

27:13
Hi! This is a question about changing my major. I established interest in being a Political Science major originally, and tried to change my intended major, but a lot of options were ruled out, including Health Sciences which I believe would be a way to pursue Public Health. What is the best way to proceed?

27:25
Are there extra courses we need to take, if so what are they? What are the requirements to stay in the honors college? Also, what are the extra opportunities for help and advising/tutoring resources?

27:58
Is the Eureka summer program only available the summer before your freshman year?

28:12
Are all your classes in the honors college, or do you have regular classes as well, and what sizes are the classes?

28:41
When will Lyceum scholars be notified if applied?

28:54
Are you able to live in RISE housing while still being in the honors college?

29:00
How does the Honors College compliment a business school major?

29:10
When will we receive information on academic scholarships?

30:05
Hi! Would you be able to share any information regarding Orientation (ie different in any way for Honors? Dates etc.)? Thank you!

30:31
@Maya - In terms of change of major, there are certain majors that you would need to change your major to once you are at Clemson. Health Science is one of these majors. If you are set on Health Science, you will likely need to come into Clemson as Political Science or change your major to something that isn’t “closed” and then apply to change your major to Health Science once you are here. Some majors require an application to apply into once you are a Clemson student.

30:54
@Taylor Little- We require that honors students take and complete one honors course every fall and spring semester, and maintain at least a 3.4 cumulative GPA at the end of every semester. We want you to take honors versions of courses that you already need to take for your degree. In addition to your academic advisor in your major, you will also be assigned an Honors Advisor, who can help with any honors-related questions. Clemson's Academic Success Center (ASC) offer both one-on-one and group tutoring (called PAL), which you can learn about here: https://www.clemson.edu/asc/index.html.

31:15
@Maya - if you do want to change your major prior to starting at Clemson, that is something you need to talk with undergraduate admissions about.

31:45
Do you feel like you are able to balance the honors coursework and be engaged in campus through clubs/other activities well?

32:08
@Greg- yes, EUREKA is only for our incoming honors freshmen.

32:49
If my mom an I are visiting during my spring break on March 15-16, would there be a way to get an in-person tour and/or talk face to face with a person (faculty or student) from the honors college. I am from out of states and will be in the health sciences program. I have not been able to get a tour so far on the dates I am visiting.

33:50
@Christina - I am not sure of the notification deadlines for Lyceum Scholars since that program is not housed within the Honors College. I would check their website and/or reach out to their main contact - https://www.clemson.edu/centers-institutes/capitalism/lyceum/index.html

34:05
@Katie - Does being in the Honors College help in being able to get into my intended major if I do have to apply when I get to clemson or beforehand?

34:13
@Raphaelle- You will want to check with Clemson's Financial Aid Office about scholarships. You can find their contact information and hours here: https://www.clemson.edu/financial-aid/contact-us.html.

34:15
We are also coming from out of state March 15-17 and have the same question as Stephanie.

34:18
I was accepted as an animal and veterinary science major pre vet, how would the honors college benefit me? Also, you mentioned that sometimes the honors classes are embedded in a larger section, what does that mean?

34:19
Are seniors required to do a thesis project?

34:56
@Parker - Yes, you can live in RiSE LLC as an honors student.

35:33
What is the difference between general honors and departmental honors?

36:20
What are some research opportunities available to honors students?

37:01
How different is the experience of living in an honors residential college as a freshman?

37:34
What do most honors college students major in?

37:37
@Lauren Henderson- You will have a combination of honors and non-honors courses every semester. Honors seminars are typically capped at 19 students; honors seminars average around 30-40 students maximum.

37:40
@Mary Beth - for orientation, we will have some honors-specific support, programming, and resources. Those details have not been finalized but we will be sure to communicate the specifics once we they are. I will likely send out an email to all admitted students as well update our Newly Admitted Student Page once we have final plans - https://www.clemson.edu/cuhonors/admissions/newly-admitted-students.html

38:04
Is the 18 hours of required honors course just for the freshman year or across all 4 years?

41:26
So all honors students must create a senior thesis? Or only departmental and interdisciplinary honors?

43:30
Students can opt to do departmental or interdisciplinary honors; it is not required.

43:35
In response to questions regarding in-person visit opportunities, we will be offering some in-person admitted student visits with Honors the first Friday of each April at 3pm. You will be able to register for one of these visits in your Admitted Student Portal next week). We currently have virtual visits on Mondays and Wednesday at 9:45am that you can sign-up for. However, if you have a special visit request, you can submit those requests to Megan a mawong@clemson.edu and we can see if we can accommodate it or not.

44:56
How do you find honors college roommates?

44:57
If you think you want to live in the honors housing, what is the best way to find an honors roommate?

45:30
How does being a part of the honors college affect your career opportunities?

45:35
What percent of honors students are involved in Greek life?

45:45
If you do not live in the honors college dorm can u still utilize the study spaces

46:16
@Ava- Yes! All honors student have 24/7 card access to the Honors Center on the the first floor of our honors building.

47:06
@Lauren - I don’t have percentage, but we have many students involved in Greek Life. Our students tend to be involved in a wide range of organizations, clubs, and activities on-campus.

48:23
@Tyalor and @Kate - for finding honors roommates, we have some tips on our newly accepted student page under the “Housing” section - https://www.clemson.edu/cuhonors/admissions/newly-admitted-students.html

49:15
@Michael Affronti- No, not all honors students need to produce an honors thesis. However, if students pursue Departmental or Interdisciplinary Honors, a thesis is a common final product of your research.

49:33
Besides unique courses and the honors housing, what other perks does the honors college come with?

49:49
Are honors students required to take a foreign language?

50:52
@Erin - The foreign language requirement is dependent on your major curriculum. Some majors require it and some do not. It is not related to your honors status.

50:55
Are honors students able to choose their housing before the regular time slots?

51:15
@Sarah - can you clarify what you mean by the regular time slots?

51:49
@Lauren- For context, I believe that less than 25% of Clemson University's students participate in Greek Life. Although it seems like a small percentage, I have worked with plenty of honors students that have been involved in Greek Life, and have successfully balanced this with their coursework and Honors experience.

52:12
Can you speak to the advisers and the relationship Honors College students have with theirs?

52:19
If you paid your housing deposit and choose honors dorms and it went through does that secure you a spot in the honors dorm?

52:28
Is there a list of freshman seminars available next fall?

52:32
In the housing portal, it said that students would be given a time to select their housing. It looked like honors students get to choose early, but I wasn’t sure if that only applies if you want to live in the honors dorms.

52:48
Does the EUREKA program interfere with orientation?

53:24
@Sarah - if you want to live in the HRC, you would choose that as your community choice in your housing application. You have to complete your housing application by noon EST on May 16. Then you will receive a time ticket for when you select your actual room. The HRC room selection happens on May 19. See housing website: https://housing.clemson.edu/housing/assignments/new-student-sign-up/

53:46
Do you have any information on how the Honors College has helped with graduates get into post-grad programs, for example Dental School

54:35
Can Honors also help with furthering your education post-Honors? For reference, I am thinking about attending law school post undergrad and was hoping that there are some resources available to help me with t that process.

54:41
Do honors students get priority registration for regular courses?

55:10
@Sarah - yes, Sarah, that only applies to if you are living in the HRC. So if you select the HRC as your community, you will select the room in the HRC on May 19. RiSE also selects on May 19, other LLCs select rooms on May 20, and all other communities select rooms between May 24-26. That is all outlined on the website I linked.

55:15
Do the honors courses give you more options for classes that count towards your major?

56:18
Do honors advisors help you create a degree map or plan?

56:35
What if you select honors on housing application and you don’t get it (due to later application date?). Can you then apply for another llc? Or are you bounced to regular housing? How many first years get into the HRC?

56:53
@Julianna - your academic advisor works with you on your degree map/plan, but your honors advisor can help you in determining what courses you might want to take as honors.

57:04
As an honors student, can you double major in biological sciences (B.S) and american sign language. I am entering as a biological sciences (B.S.) major, but I am considering a double major.

59:22
@Andrea - yes, you can double major and even add your second major once you are here at Clemson. I would just make sure to share your interest in double majoring when you meet with an academic advisor this summer during the pre-registration advising process.

01:00:12
What is the pre-registration advising process? Thank you!

01:00:44
@Donna - Honors housing is not required and is not guaranteed. However, most years, we have been able to accommodate the honors incoming students who want to live in the Honors Residential College. If for some reason we don’t have the space, the housing department would be in touch with the student nearing the May 16 deadline to apply for housing to let them know they need to select a different residential space.

01:01:03
what is the medical school placement rate for the honors college?

01:01:08
@Marianna- For your first semester, you should receive more information from your major's department about advising closer to the summer.

01:02:03
@Marianna- As far as pre-registration advising for subsequent semesters, you will be required to meet with your academic advisor in your major to discuss which courses you will need to take the following semester.

01:04:49
Is there an opportunity to speak to a current student who is majoring in nursing and in the honors college?

01:05:33
Are there any study abroad opportunities specific to the honors college?

01:05:50
Does the Honors Residential College have a curfew?

01:06:37
Could you speak a bit about the EUREKA program please?

01:07:44
@Ava Longo- You are welcome to reach out to our Honors Student Ambassadors via email. You can find their information and profiles here: https://www.clemson.edu/cuhonors/admissions/honors-ambassadors.html. Our Nursing program is housed under the College of Behavioral, Social, and Health Sciences.

01:08:40
Emily Lay, one of our Honors Student Ambassadors, is majoring in Nursing. Her email is ealay@g.clemson.edu.

01:09:45
@Sarah Bradley- You can learn about the Honors College's travel opportunities here: https://www.clemson.edu/cuhonors/opportunities/travel/index.html

01:10:28
@Green- To my knowledge, the Honors Residential College does not have a curfew. However, I think that there are quiet hours during certain points in the semester (i.e., midterms and final exams).

01:11:29
What is the rate of students that drop out of honors college and those who don’t keep up GPA to stay in the program?

01:11:57
For more information about EUREKA!, visit this web page: https://www.clemson.edu/cuhonors/opportunities/intellectual-growth/eureka/index.html

01:13:32
Are there summer 2022 requirements for incoming freshmen honors?

01:14:39
Do Clemson students especially honors students graduate in 4 years?

01:15:28
Students- please make sure to check your email (the one that you provided on your Honors College application) from Katie Maxwell for more information about additional Admitted Student zoom events, virtual and in-person visit opportunities, and other resources. Our next Zoom events will be on March 1- Honors College Virtual Parent Q&A and March 16- Honors College Current Student and Alumni Panel. Both events start at 5:00 p.m.

01:16:12
